Submitting a permit: you may fill out online and email to officecoordinator@villageofsherwood.org , or you may print it out and turn it in at Village Hall. You can pay for your permit via the link on our homepage for debit/credit card payments, or you may pay via cash/check at Village Hall.  Your permit will not be approved until payment has been received.


General Permit Application : a general use permit would be applied for all, but not limited to, the following instances: Upgrading an existing room of the home (ex. Kitchen, bathroom, multi-room remodel, finishing off a basement, etc.), residing of a home/structure, installing a new boiler (when new plumbing work is required), re-roofing an existing structure (garages, houses, etc.), replacing headers on garage doors, *installing an egress window, installing a new A/C unit (when new electrical work is required), putting up a sign, moving an existing sign, and fixing any code violations found by building inspector (such as plumbing or electrical work).

Please submit the permit application along with payment and copy of the plan of the project (if needed) to the Village Office for approval.

If you are doing any of the trades-work yourself, you will also need to complete a Municipal Cautionary Statement.

Land Use Permit Application -  a land use permit would be needed for all, but not limited to, the following instances: Building and/or installing of a storage shed, a pool (above or below ground), fencing, a patio, a deck, a retaining wall, a culvert extension, a pergola, a pergola over an existing patio, a walkway (or walkways), a retaining wall, a fire pit, a fence extension, and a front porch or a gazebo.

Please submit the permit application along with payment and copy of the plan of the project, typically a drawing of your lot, which depicts the location of the structure (include setbacks of lot to ensure clearance of easements and right-of-way) to the Village Office for approval.

Please note that pet fencing (cabling buried in the ground) is exempt from land use permits.

• NOTE: both applications would be needed for projects such as: A home addition (adding on to the existing footprint of a home) or new room add-on such as a sun room or three-season room.

Road Right-of-Way Permit Application: used for instances for contractors that need to do work in the road right-of-way within the Village.
